McGraw Hill China (Higher Ed) participates in CEAPA-BALEAP International Conference 2021

We are proud to be a part of CEAPA - BALEAP 2021 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE (暨第七届中国术英语教学研究年会) which was held from 28 to 30 May in Suzhou, China.  This conference is co-hosted by CEAPA (China English for Academic Purposes Association) and BALEAP (British Association of Lectures in English for Academic Purposes), and is undertaken by Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University English Language Center.

The conference aims to bring together EAP (English for Academic Purposes) higher education teaching professionals from all over the world to engage in knowledge exchange and collaboration at XJTLU. The theme for 2021 is "EAP as a Glocal Language" addressing i. how EAP provision can adapt to meet the needs of students situated in non-Anglophone contexts and ii. how EAP has gradually become a diverse and evolving Glocal language.

In line with the theme, we've invited Georgios Kormpas, Director of the Teaching, Learning and Development Center at Al Yamamah University in Saudi Arabia to share his expertise on EAP Programs and how our EAP solutions solutions can help instructors improve their teaching experience.

EAP (English for Academic Purposes) has flourished in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s (Hamp-Lyons, 1980).  Ever since it was discovered, it has been well researched and given a lot of attention in various publications and conferences around the world.  Teachers and practitioners faced slight challenges at the beginning as they did not have prior training to deliver such courses.  One of the major elements that was missing was content.  There is a plethora of material for general English courses, but not ESP ones.  Teachers found it difficult to keep all their material together.  Nowadays, there is ample amount of content but how do teachers keep up with content, material from the book, case studies, extra homework and others?

In the live presentation, Georgios demonstrated how instructors are able to utilize all the materials with McGraw Hill leading online learning platform - Connect® and EAP solution - New Interactions. These solutions would not only help students with their learning experience but may also significantly improve instructor's teaching experience.
